Event Information
In September 2012 World Event Young Artists will showcase new artistic talent from across the globe, bringing a staggering 1,000 artists aged 18 to 30 together in one city – Nottingham – for a programme that will stretch across all art forms, from visual arts exhibitions to dance performances, theatrical installations to live music and gastronomic events.
It will be the finale to the Cultural Olympiad in the East Midlands and builds on the success of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM). World Event Young Artists will profile the creativity of young artists in a line-up of internationally regarded cultural venues and alternative spaces across the city for a full 10 days from the 7th to the 16th of September. WEYA’s key partners are Arts Council England, Cultural Olympiad East Midlands, Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Trent University.
Over the last ten years Nottingham has established itself as a significant national and international city of culture. Major developments include two new arts spaces, Nottingham Contemporary and New Art Exchange and the refurbishment of Broadway Media Centre. The Old Market Square has been redeveloped and has quickly become established as a popular outdoor venue at the heart of the city.
