In this work Amol is relating the human body with reptiles which shed their skin from time to time to get a fresh skin. There are range of cosmetic products which are produced every year, which falsely promise an entirely fresh looking skin. His works explore the desires that are generated by the constantly hampering fashion media. He commemorates the fakeness of appearances - which is generated by mall culture and bollywood - in his process of practice. This is where Amol’s desire to create an unique costume which is impossible to replicate came into existence. ‘Impression’ is a jacket which is a product of his performance. The mediums used are mehndi (henna), fevicol - a synthetic resin adhesive and his own body. His body becomes a machine and heat from it helps the fevicol dry over a period of 24 hours, which is then peeled off. The peeled layer then contains the textures and wrinkles of his skin. Using mehndi and fevicol he has a purpose of contradictions. Mehndi is used as a temporary tattoo on hands and legs for decorative purpose, while fevicol helps him to symbolize the fakeness of the cosmetic products. They merge and create a surface of their own; to peel the so called ‘dead skin’ from his own body. Amol’s work is also about the connection of his dreams with the space he lives in. It is a simple mapping of objects in his space. The ropes made out of fevicol - mould of the same tiles of the same space where he did this performance.
Amol’s works explore the desires that are generated by the constantly hampering fashion media. He is a Mumbai-based artist and he create fabrics, jackets and skins as products of his performance. Apart from this his mediums range from drawings to installations. Specializing in painting Amol chose performance as a crucial medium. His family traditionally comes from folk theatre that travelled from village to village to sing folklore -‘shaheer’. And being a student of Nikhil Chopra, it became more evident that performance became the crucial medium of expression. He lives in a Chawl. He admits that living there easily cultivates the desires of being popular, and a celebrity. He has been fascinated with the roles of the brands, mall culture and bollywood. And he commemorate the superficial or fakeness of appearances in his process of practice. He has been exploring fevicol-a synthetic resin adhesive as a base medium. He uses his skin and the heat from his body and fevicol to create the fabric. The process of making this fabric automatically (on the basic level) brings him into a performance mode. After it is applied on his body it takes a minimum of 24 hours to dry, which is then peeled off. The peeled layer then contains the textures and wrinkles of his skin which cannot be replicated in any case.
