Van Did is interested in and concerned by the environment, which he references in his music by using natural sounds he records in nature. This creates ambiance and rich aural landscapes. One of his major influences is sound design, and he uses many new techniques for manipulating the audio signal. In always looking for new material to give texture to his work, Van Did creates immersive audio experiences, as he is very interested in audio spatialization, 5.1 surround sound, and binaural audio recording.
He is inspired by a variety of musicians, from electronic artists Max Cooper and Extrawelt, as well as minimalist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Van Did often uses classical instruments such as the piano and marimbas, because he feels that the sounds they produce have a human quality that synthesizers cannot recreate.
Van Did composes detailed, multilayered music to be listened to attentively, but also creates more popular club music. His sometimes repetitive music can induce a hypnotic effect, yet he always includes details and nuances.
